Rover 90/110 Defender Chassis, this vehicle is referenced by the British
Military as the
Defender High Specification (HS) and by Land Rover as
Defender Extra Duty (XD). However, it is also commonly called "Wolf" (after
the Rover project
name). It is offered in two man variants, the 90 inch wheelbase Truck Utility Light (TUL-HS) and the 110 inch wheelbase Truck Utility Medium (TUM-HS), with further differentiations including General Service (GS) or Fitted for Radio (FFR) vehicles, which also come in hard and soft topped configurations. Many Wolf Land Rovers have been modified for combat duties and are armed and/or armored. One famous example is the Rapid Deplyment Vehicle, AKA “Land Rover 110 Defender XD WMIK” or “WMIK/Wolf". WMIK is an acronym for "Weapons Mount Installation Kit" which was designed by Ricardo Special Vehicles, Ltd for the purpose of allowing the Land Rover to carry heavy weapons such as 12.7mm Heavy Machine Guns or the MILAN ATGM system. Some later "Snatch" Land Rovers (CAV100) are based upon the Land Rover XD "Wolf" TUM chassis. |
