37mm Gun Motor Carriage T2/T2E1 (Bantam BRC40)

Photos Compiled by Dave Haugh

Above: The 37mm Gun Motor Carriage, T2. The T2 was based on the Bantam BRC40 Reconnaissance Car and proved to be overloaded, even though it proved too light for the cannon recoil. During testing the T2 was also found to have a very limited traverse in the frontal arc of the vehicle.

Above: The 37mm Gun Motor Carriage, T2E1 (Version 1). This was the first version of the T2E1, with the 37mm cannon repositioned to fire over the rear of the vehicle. While this new design did allow for a full 360 degree traverse for the cannon, the car itself was still over loaded.

Above and below: The 37mm Gun Motor Carriage, T2E1 (Version 2). This was the second version of the T2E1 as completed by members of the 2nd Cavalry Division at Fort Meade, Maryland. At this point the basic BRC40 had been drastically lightened, and in an effort to simplify the forward arc of the cannon, the steering wheel had been pushed forward as well. While other efforts would continue with the Ford and Willys 1/4-ton trucks, this was the last US attempt to adapt the Bantam BRC40 to carry a 37mm cannon.
